My name is David Sheppard. I went online this afternoon to google the name of a teacher and friend of mine that I knew years ago. Of course, she was Renate Wood. I had no idea she had passed away. I had my first creative writing class from her. Even got a poem I wrote for her published in The Paris Review. She introduced me to so many things that have had such a positive influence on me. It was a shock seeing that she was gone. It was always a pleasure to just know that she was alive and in the world.
At least it was better to hear it from another of her students. She was simply marvelous.
